MU cuts Raphael Varane's contract by one year

According to The Athletic, Raphael Varane's contract at MU could end in June 2024, instead of in 2025 as in the original contract.

MU soon pushed Varane out of the club

In the summer of 2021, Varane left Real Madrid after a period of great success to join MU. At that time, the French defender signed a 4-year contract with the Old Trafford team.

However, Varane could leave Man Utd this winter. According to information from The Athletic's Laurie Whitwell, the contract between MU and Varane could end in June 2024. The Old Trafford team has cut a year off the contract between the two sides.

This means that Varane can negotiate with any team next January. Man Utd is also ready to sell the former Real Madrid star this winter. Varane can even sign a contract with any team outside England as early as January 2024.

It is known that MU can save about 13 million pounds in Varane's salary if they sell this defender next winter. Currently, Varane receives a salary of around 250,000 pounds/week with additional bonuses depending on the number of appearances.

Varane did not show much in his first season with MU. It was not until the second season, when Erik ten Hag arrived, that the French defender along with Lisandro Martinez created impressive defensive achievements for Man Utd.

However, the relationship between Varane and Ten Hag has shown signs of rift recently. The former Real Madrid star was not happy having to reserve for Maguire and Evans. Erik ten Hag explained that there were no problems between the two and that Varane was out purely for tactical reasons.
